Singing Technique of Pop Songs
Breathing
It is a general mistake to take control of breath by our throat's muscle in
singing because the throat's muscle is not strong enough to control our breath
in singing. Instead, we should control our breath by the diaphragm which is a
strong muscle locating between our lungs and stomach. When we take deep breath,
the diaphragm should get tight quickly and release slowly. We should practice to
retain the tightness of the diaphragm and make it control the release of air
slowly after a deep intake of air. Such practice of diaphragm control will
usually take several months. It is good to diagnose our breathing technique by
singing 'vibrato'. We should feel the vibration of our diaphragm instead of our
throat.
Resonance
Resonance is something like the Reverb effect, that provides natural effect that
enrich our singing effect. Resonance is produced by the cavities in our head.
This is one of the reason why we need to maintain strong air to push sound to
the cavities and produce resonance. Unlike classical singing, we don't need to
produce all notes with resonance when we sing pop songs. However, we still need
such technique of resonance especially when we try to sing high notes.
